What Is It Like To Have Cerebral Palsy?

I have had people approach me and ask, "What is it like to have cerebral palsy?"  My first impulse is to ask the inquirer what it's like to be blonde?!  I've had cp my whole life!  While I may not know any difference, there are certain limitations, along with a few advantages, that come with having cerebral palsy.

1.  People use to ask if I had cerebral palsy, now they ask if I have Parkinson's disease.

2.  I can either go for a walk or carry on a conversation, but I can't do both at the same time.

3.  Along the same line, I can either take a walk with my wife or hold her hand.  I can't do both.

4.  I don't eat Jello.

5.  I don't eat peas without also eating mashed potatoes.

6.  I don't eat Whoppers.  For me, that would take way more than two hands.

7.  I never stand up to go to the bathroom unless I'm wearing shoes.

8.  It's easy to fake a fall when there's a pretty girl around.  (Disclaimer:  I haven't  done this one since being married.)

That to me is a really weird question to ask. I like your response about "What's it like being a blond?" I also don't eat whoppers, they are huge, I never finish them. I really like the last entry, although I wouldn't try that either being married. :)

Thanks for writing about this. There's a lot of solid tech information on the internet. You've got a lot of that info here on your website. I'm impressed - I try to keep a couple blogs somewhat on-going, but it's a struggle sometimes. You've done a big job with this one. How do you do it?
