Taiwan - The Absurdity Of The Cross

So, how does one present the gospel in a cultural that emphasizes the importance of saving face? I intend on doing so by talking about the God who intentionally chose to lose face! Think about that for a moment. Jesus Christ did not have to go to the cross, He chose the cross! Can you think of anything that sounds more absurd than a God who sacrifices his only son. . .for you. . .and for me?
Two men: King David and Herod. Both men found themselves in precarious situations because of their own stupidity. David commits adultery, murder and deceit. Herod succumbs to the wishes of a young woman and calls for the decapitation of John the baptizer. The difference between the two? Herod saves face by committing murder, David, when confronted by the prophet Nathan, makes a conscious choice to lose face and, by doing so, comes clean with God. That's a decision each of us have to make at some point. What are we going to do with God? Do we save face? Or do we come clean with a God who's own son lost face on a cross for our behalf?
