Jury Duty? Well...
You can imagine my surprise the night before I was due to report for jury duty when, after i called the courthouse, I found out that my jury date had been postponed by a couple of weeks. I'm willing to serve. I'm even willing to rearrange my schedule in order to comply with my civic duty. I rescheduled an appointment with my kidney specialist just to be available. But, I do not like being jerked around. Now I'm sure that the court has their reasons for postponing the trial. But I still don't like it, especially when i read in the newspaper this morning that a murder trial, due to begin yesterday, the same day I was originally scheduled to serve, was postponed. Now I do not relish the idea of serving on a murder case. So I started thinking of things I could say in order to assure myself of not getting seated.
1) Is he guilty? Why else would he have been arrested.
2) Am I prejudice? Of course! I believe in right and wrong, good and evil, heaven and hell.
3) Can I be unbiased? Sure! He's probably going to hell anyway.
The only problem with this is that my conscience won't allow me to do it. But it's tempting.
